Dr. Orwa Nasser MD MPH is a specialist ophthalmologist and eye surgeon and the director of the Orasis Eye Center, a specialized center for ophthalmology for adults and children.
Dr. Orwa Nasser holds two advanced specializations (AUPO Fellowship) from prestigious hospitals in America. The doctor specializes in corneal diseases and transplants, cataracts, laser vision correction surgeries and also specializes in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and nystagmus (eye oscillation).
In addition, Dr. Orwa is a member of the Supreme Committee of the Israeli Ophthalmologists Association and a member of the Supreme Committee of the Independent Physicians Association in Israel.
Dr. Orwa Nasser completed his medical studies (MD) in 2008 at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical School in Jerusalem, and then completed his second Master of Public Health (MPH) in 2010 at the same school. After completing his studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Nasser began his training in 2008/2009 at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, and completed his residency in ophthalmology between 2010-2014 at Bnei Zion Hospital in Haifa. After completing his residency in ophthalmology, Dr. Orwa Nasser moved to America in 2015, where he spent four years completing advanced specializations in ophthalmology. In the first year, 2015/2016, he completed advanced specialization in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and nystagmus at Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio, USA, under the supervision of Professor Richard Hertel, the world’s leading specialist in nystagmus surgeries. In the second year, 2016/2017, he completed an additional advanced specialization in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa, USA, which is one of the leading centers in eye surgery in America and the world. During these two years, Dr. Orwa Nasser gained great knowledge and vast experience on the medical and surgical levels in everything related to eye diseases in children, strabismus and nystagmus in adults and children, eye injuries in children, cataracts in children, glaucoma in children and hereditary eye diseases. After that, during the years 2017-2019, Dr. Orwa Nasser completed a high specialization in corneal diseases and transplantation, cataracts, laser vision correction surgeries, and he performed this specialization, which lasted for two years, at UTSW Medical Center in Texas, USA, which is one of the largest and most important medical centers for eyes in America and the world. During these two years, Dr. Orwa Nasser gained great knowledge and vast experience on the medical and surgical levels in everything related to corneal diseases and transplantation, cataract surgeries, laser vision correction surgeries, implantation of special lenses, correction of pupils and iris and eye injuries. In late 2019, Dr. Nasser returned to the Holy Land from America, and since then he has been the Director of the Orasis Eye Center, in addition to his work as a specialist ophthalmologist and surgeon.
Dr. Orwa Nasser is an active member of international and local associations such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the World Cornea Organization, the American Society of Cataract and Laser Surgery (ASCRS), the International Society of Laser Surgery (ISRS), the American Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), the World Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS), the World Organization of Ophthalmologists (ICO), the Israeli Society of Ophthalmologists (IOS), and other bodies and associations.
Dr. Orwa Nasser has a prominent academic activity, and has medical research and studies published in international journals and periodicals. He also continues to participate in international and local conferences to give lectures and present his medical research. He is also an editorial board member and reviewer in academic medical journals such as Cornea, Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (JPOS) and others. Dr. Orwa Nasser is also active in voluntary ophthalmology associations and travels to third world countries to perform free eye surgeries on adults and children.
Dr. Orwa Nasser's Volunteer Projects: Dr. Nasser works extensively in volunteer projects to combat blindness in the world. In cooperation with humanitarian organizations, Dr. Nasser volunteers in third world countries and performs many free surgeries for the needy and those who cannot afford medical treatment. During these trips, the doctor performs free surgeries for adults and children such as cataract surgery, strabismus, corneal transplantation, glaucoma and more. Ukraine Project 2021: In August 2021, Dr. Orwa Nasser traveled to Korosten in northern Ukraine, a few weeks before the war with Russia, with a team from the United States of America that included three other doctors and ten volunteers. Dr. Orwa Nasser and his team carried out a volunteer and free mission during which he performed eye surgeries to restore sight to the blind and needy in northern Ukraine. During this project, Dr. Nasser performed dozens of surgeries within a week, and examined more than three thousand patients, children and adults who could not afford surgery or eye examinations. All of these examinations and operations were free and without any charge. During this project, glasses were also provided to hundreds of patients for free. This project was supported mainly by the Chicago church congregation who contributed a lot in equipment and medicines. The donations included cataract surgery lenses, eye drops, medical equipment and other devices. Africa/Nigeria Project 2019: In July 2019, Dr. Orwa Nasser undertook a voluntary and free mission during which he performed eye surgeries to restore sight to the blind and needy in Africa, specifically in Nigeria. During this project, the doctor performed more than one hundred and twenty surgeries within a week for children and adults who could not afford surgery. All these examinations and surgeries were free of charge. 70 cataract surgeries were performed, 15 corneal transplants for children and adults, 20 congenital and non-congenital cataract surgeries for children, 20 congenital and non-congenital glaucoma surgeries for children and adults and other types of surgeries. This project was supported by global pharmaceutical and medical companies that donated cataract lenses, eye drops, corneal transplants and glaucoma surgery devices. This project was done in collaboration with the SIM International Association, which works for the needy in poor countries.
